SAN ANTONIO AREA SERVICE
Termites
Subterranean termites are the silent destroyers of Texas homes. They live in soil, build mud tubes to reach wood, and can compromise structural integrity before you see a single insect. Annual inspection is standard for any home over 5 years old.
Scientific name: Reticulitermes flavipes (eastern subterranean termite — most common in San Antonio) Service area: San Antonio + within ~15 miles (Helotes, Stone Oak, Leon Springs, Fair Oaks Ranch).
At a glance
| Size | Workers ~3 mm; soldiers slightly larger; reproductive swarmers 8–10 mm |
| Color | Workers: pale cream; soldiers: orange head; swarmers: dark with translucent wings |
| Active period | Workers year-round underground; swarmers emerge in spring after rain |
| Habitat in homes | Soil contact with wood: wall plates, deck posts, framing, untreated mulch piled against siding |
| Famous trait | Build pencil-thick "mud tubes" from soil up to wood as protected highways |
Identification
Mud tubes on foundation walls or in crawl spaces are the clearest sign. Hollow-sounding wood when tapped. Discarded wings near windowsills after a swarm. Swarmers look like winged ants but have a straight (not pinched) waist.
Risk profile
Structural damage over months to years. Repair often costs more than the original framing. Subterranean termites cause more damage to American homes than fires and floods combined.
How we treat it
Liquid termiticide barrier + bait stations. We trench around the foundation and inject a non-repellent termiticide that kills the workers + spreads through the colony. Bait stations placed in soil keep monitoring. Annual re-inspection is included.
